The Inauguration of a model Vocational Training Center in Deir Ez Zor

The Minister of Industry, Mr. Adnan Slakhu, inaugurated a model Vocational Training Center within the vocational training compound centers related to the Ministry of Industry in Deir Ez Zor. The project has been implemented in cooperation with the Ministry of Industry and the State Planning Commission, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Total E&P Syrie and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Deir Ez Zor.

 

The project cost reached to 527 Thousand USD, and the work in this project started in 2008. The project aims to fill the gap between the offer and demand in the job market at the Governorate in the field of professions and skills. Based on that, requested specialities were approved and developed and training curricula have been set in seven domains including; 1) Installation and Maintenance of ACs,(2) Welding (of all types), 3) Maintenance of modern cars (mechatronic), (4) Maintenance and gathering of PCs, (5) Maintenance of Cell phones, (6) Ready garment technology, (7) Hair dressing and make-up

Necessary training has been provided to the specialities trainers based on the principle of “Training of Trainers” TOT, in order to ensure the required knowledge and experience. The seven workshops have been renovated and equipped with standard modern equipment, in accordance with the international norms.
Mr. Slakhu declared to “Syria Oil” stressing the importance of the new modal vocational training center in rehabilitating the youth in a way that ensures job opportunities for them and meeting the market needs for skilled and qualified labour in the Governorate, particularly because such center is equipped with modern techniques and equipment

 

Dr. Weis Al-Ali, Director of the Center, said that the Center will offer vocational courses to those who are interested starting by mid of this month, with symbolic price to enable the largest number of young people to get benefit from this center and to increase new job opportunities, in addition to meeting the market requirements with skilled and qualified personnel and to support the micro and medium projects in Deir Ez Zor Governorate. Dr. Weis indicated that the partnership among UNDP, Total E&P Syrie, Ministry of Industry and Chamber of Commerce and Industry has produced an essential development project needed by the Governorate in the field of empowering the human capabilities and training for professions highly demanded by the job market

Mr. Emmanuel Morin, Business and Joint Ventures Manager in Total E&P Syrie, indicated that the Company contributed as a partner by establishing the center as recognition of the value of vocational training and focusing on promoting access to a better education based on local market assessment where the center is considered as an important tool in supporting the business sector and in being the main source for generating jobs by targeting the unskilled labour and training them for 7 vocational professions that are highly demanded by the local market. The curricula were designed in cooperation with UNRWA based on the study conducted by them regarding the training needs assessment in Deir Ez Zor Governorate

Mr. Morin indicated that Total E&P Syrie’s support to the economic development is not limited to this model Vocational Training Center; Total E&P Syrie in cooperation with UNDP and other entities (Chamber of Commerce and Industry, IECD, BIDAYA and SYEA) supports also the establishment of variety of centers such as Al Hadaf Center for Micro Enterprises, Business Innovation and Development Center for young entrepreneurs. Computer Training Center and finally contribution in the Heritage Training center within the project for rehabilitating the area behind the Ottoman gate (Al-Saraya). In addition, Total E&P Syrie contributes in the Micro loans program through BIDAYA which provides seed funding for youth who have viable ideas

Mr. Morin pointed that Total E&P Syrie operates as a responsible citizen through optimizing its contribution to socio-economic development by encouraging programs in Syria to promote: education, health where it is currently building, equipping and operating a clinic for diagnosis of liver disease in Al Hajeen area, in addition to building entrepreneurship capacities, heritage preservation and environment; with an emphasis on supporting local economic development and local skills. These programs have been channeled through NGOs and in close cooperation with International Organizations and local communities and public authorities. He drew the attention that in the meantime, Total E&P Syrie in cooperation with the Government are setting up the Development Fund which is dedicated to the social development in Deir Ez Zor Governorate

The inauguration was attended also by the Governor of Deir Ez Zor Eng. Hussein Arnous, Mrs. Faten Tibi, Head of business development team at UNDP and Mrs. Souheir Shahine, Head of Sustainable Development in Total E&P Syrie
