22 February 2006 Commemorating 20 years of Shell and PetroCanada support to oil production in Syria, and under the patronage of H.E. the Minister of Oil & Mineral Resources, Engineer Sufian Al - Alao and with the cooperation between the Ministry of Oil & Mineral Resources, Syria Shell Petroleum Development and Petro Canada companies, respectively represented by their General Managers Mr. Campbell Keir and Mr. Hisham Yazji, a launching ceremony for the book “ Treasures of the Earth” is held on Wednesday 22 February at 18.00 h., at the Four Seasons Hotel. Many representatives from the government, employees in the oil and gas sector, representatives of foreign companies working in Syria, and a number of specialist academics in the field of Oil Engineering, Geology and Syria Shell Petroleum Development and Petro Canada staff will attend the event. The book is considered as a scientific and cultural reference, the first of the kind in providing significant data, as it represents a discovery journey in Syria through its beautiful landscape and the immortal forces of nature. It aims at putting Syria’s geology at hand to ordinary readers through providing basics on the Geology science in a simplified and smooth method. At the same time, it reveals how the Geology can impact our daily life, having a prominent role in the development programs. As a social commitment towards the Syrian Community, we offer this book as a contribution to support the cultural, scientific and educational movement in Syria, which we always take in our perpetual interest, in all the developmental programs activities we perform all over the year

On Monday 3rd of April, H.E. Eng. Soufian Al-Alao, Minister of Petroleum & Mineral Resources, opened the Fifth Syrian International Oil & Gas Exhibition SYROIL 2006 at the fair Ground accompanied by Sudanese Minister of Petroleum as well as governmental officials from the Syrian Oil and Gas industry. SYROIL is an International specialized exhibition for The Oil, Gas, and Petrochemical industry in the Middle East and the Arab region and has been sponsored by the Ministry of Oil and mineral resources, Al-Furat petroleum company, Syria Shell Petroleum development, Deir Ezzor Oil Company, Total, Ina, Schlumberger and DHL. Syria Shell participated in the exhibition with Shell stand, which attracted many visitors and was selected by the organizing committee as the best stand for SYROIL 2006. Two technical presentations were offered to audience at the stand, which added a great value to the knowledge of interested staff from SPC and AFPC; as well, we participated in the official forum with a technical presentation on Deep Paleozoic Study.

11 Million man-hours without LTI |

On the occasion of achieving 11 million man-hours LTI free on 28th April 2006 by AFPC and Its contractor, Mr. Restucci presented a certificate to Dr. Abdallah Abdul Rahman AFPC Chairman. Mr. Restucci emphasized that this is a world-class achievements that could only be made with continuous personal dedication to safety details. AFPC Chairman gave a short speech about this milestone and the importance of cooperative efforts to accomplish this tremendous achievement that we can all be very proud of. Special congratulations must go to our Contractors whose efforts are mainly at the front end of our operations where the exposure to an accident is the greatest. The safety management of our operations is very challenging with both very cold winters and very hot summers requiring different approaches and techniques to keep everyone healthy and safe. Additionally, the threats to our road transportation are ever present with 3rd parties posing an ever-increasing exposure to our personnel. We continue to head now for our next milestone on 12 million man-hours LTI free.

HSE Public Awareness |

On the occasion of World traffic day 4th May 06. Syria Shell with co-operation AFPC and other companies contributed to the road safety traffic campaign in Dier Ezzour through the period of 04-07 May 2006. Mr. Khaled Al Ahmed - Governor of Dier Ezzour - inaugurated this activity with presence of the representatives of the companies and appreciated the efforts exerted in this field to increase the road safety awareness throughout the community. The target customers in this campaign were the taxi drivers, road traffic policemen and the school pupils ( grade 5th ). Objective of this campaign is to rise the awareness of using the seatbelts for taxi drivers in addition to the policemen and what is the proper way to deal with the road for school pupils. This campaign is addressed to the hearts and minds of the drivers by getting their hands on What is the actual impact expected from NOT using the seat belts through using the seatbelt convincer and barbeque rollover. Promotional materials distributed to the attendees ( caps, pens and key rings ) in addition to a brochure addressed few road safety topics in Arabic language.

Banking and Financial Services Conference 4 November 2006 |

The second Syrian conference for Banking and Financial Services was opened on November 2006 to review practical and legislative steps taken by the government to modernize the country's banking sector. Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affaires Abdullah al-Dardari explained in his opening speech the comprehensive changes in the Syrian economic structure where the government prepared the tenth five-year plan for development as a framework for the social and economic change and to prepare Syria for facing the third millennium requirements. Chairman of the British-Syrian Society Dr. Fawaz al-Akhras called in his speech to develop the Syrian talented persons and work to transfer knowledge and expertise to future generations as well as bridge the knowledge gap and develop youth capabilities. The two-day conference was organized by the Syrian-British Society in Damascus and co-sponsored by Syria Shell and other national and international companies & banks. The conference was attended by 600 businessmen from Syria, Arab and foreign countries. Syria Shell participated at the conference’s exhibition.

Syria Shell Supports BIDYA |

Based on the social responsibility and Shell commitment to support the Syrian community, Syria Shell hosted Bedaya Project at Shell office. During the presentation, Ms. Rana Shanawani, the director of BIDYA project, gave a presentation to SSPD staff on BIDYA’s achievement and activities to encourage private business development. Mr. Cambell Keir, SSPD General Manager, explained the important role of private companies such as Shell in supporting young entrepreneurs to start and develop their private projects. At the end, Mr. Cambell Keir Syria Shell General Manager handed a cheque with an amount of $ 50,000 to Ms. Rana Shanawani as a grant from Syria Shell to support the efforts and services provided by BIDYA to young entrepreneurs.

Fun Day |
|
|
SSPD External Affairs Department invited children from “AlAwdeh Orphanage” in Damascus to spend Fun Day at the “Fun Town” restaurant on January 2006. The children enjoyed the entertaining games and other various activities. SSPD staff participated in this event and handed nice gifts to the invited children.

Based on SSPD Social Investment, SSPD is sponsored a cultural event performed by Inana Dance Group under the title "Julia Dumna" ) on 4 May 2006, at the old international fair theatre. This event is in cooperation with Damascus Community School and sponsored by several other companies in Syria.

Awareness Lecture on Breast Cancer |

|
Part of Syria Shell support to HSE awareness among Shell Staff, CX department in cooperation with the Syrian Society of Senology invited SSPD staff to attend a lecture on “Early Detection of Brest Cancer” at SSPD office on 17/12/2006. The lecture was presented by Dr. Suhail Sam’an, Surgerist in breast cancer, who explained the importance of early detection in cancer treatment, and the commitment to the recommended health standards. Also he introduced new medical methods in cancer treatment and surgery. Shell Staff appreciated this valuable lecture which comes as a follow up on CX support to Al-Sham Cancer Center .

Syria Signs Two 20-Year Oil and Gas Contracts with Shell |

The Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources signed two 20-year contracts with Shell for Oil and Gas exploration in the northeast ( Block 13 & 15). Under the first contract, Shell will conduct exploration and exploitation work in an area extending from southwest of Deir Ezzor 450 kilometers northeast of Damascus, to the Iraqi border, The second deal, focuses on an area just south of Palmyra, 256 kilometers north of Damascus. The signature ceremony was held at the Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources with the presence of H.E. Eng. Sufian Al-Alao, the Minister of Oil, Mr. Ahmed Moalla , head of the Syrian Petroleum Company, Mr. Rauel Rastucci, Shell Executive Deputy and Mr, Campbell Keir Syria Shell General Manager. The ceremony was followed by a dinner attended by governmental officials and SSPD staff.
