Iraqi official statement stressed that Baghdad had expressed the desire to re-operate the pipeline between the oil fields in Kirkuk and the port of Banias on the Syrian coast.

The statement said that Iraqi Trade Minister Abdul falah Hassan Sudanee assured to his Syrian counterpart Amer Hosni Lutfi desire to repair the pipeline to transfer oil again with turnover of some important parts of the pipeline inside the Iraqi territory.
The pipeline with length of about 800 kilometers Was inaugurated in 1952 for connecting Kirkuk fields (northern Iraq) with Banias (West Syria), transferring no less than 300 thousand barrels a day.

But the American raids damaged the pipeline during the invasion of 2003 and stop the export through it since then.
It should be noted that the two countries agreed in December 2007 to rehabilitate the pipeline but did not start work until now.
