On the occasion of International Traffic Day … Syria Shell Petroleum Development held in collaboration with the Directorate of Traffic Engineering in Damascus Governorate and Damascus traffic branch of an awareness campaign for traffic safety under the slogan / For your safety.. postpone your call/ at the buses Station in ASSumeria on the occasion of International Traffic Day on the fourth of May.

Admiral / Muhammad Yunus Ammar / Director of Traffic Department, said that the campaign is an opportunity to recall the importance of awareness of traffic to road users, drivers and pedestrians alike and need to adhere to traffic rules and a commitment to new traffic law that brings traffic safety through the implementation of optimized especially as it is one of the best laws at the level of the Arab region, especially which its first priority is traffic safety.

He thanked Shell for its usual contributes in this area and all areas of social and development in Syria.

Mr. Bashar Kassab Hassan, who represented Shell in the event said that the activity falls within the numerous events held by Shell in the service of public interest in the Syrian society, such as participation in the campaign against smoking and to support development activities and campaigns of traffic safety ,etc. pointing out that this campaign is to raise awareness of the drivers to comply with the rules of road safety for safe driving without incident or damage.

Abdul Majeed Houry, head of safety, health and the environment in Syria Shell Petroleum Development reviewed United Nations, the World Health Organization statistics on the number of accidents and deaths and injuries and causes of accidents in the world, noting that excessive speed and the use of mobile phone while driving and not using seat belts are the main reasons for the occurrence of traffic accidents.

The campaign of three days includes various events including lectures on safe driving and road safety for drivers in ASSumeria while waiting for their trips as well as view a film dealing with definition of the rules of road safety and distribution of bulletins showing the risks and causes of accidents and ways to reduce and minimize the seriousness.

the activities of the campaign aims to raise awareness among various segments of society, especially drivers towards the importance of safe driving and how to avoid road accidents.

ASSumaria abuses Stations was chosen this year as a starting of the campaign of the need to disseminate information about traffic safety and safe driving among drivers of the Stations as a result of their work, which requires driving for long hours and distances.

In the same context and within the events that take place in the province of Deir al-Zour on this occasion was opened by participatory Tent set up by the al- Furat Petroleum Company, Syria Shell Petroleum Development in cooperation with the Red Crescent and Traffic Brunches of Deir al-Zour, which include the events on which the workshops to educate students and drivers of traffic rules and procedures traffic safety to mitigate the effects and damage to these incidents.
