Red Crescent branch Deir Ez-Zor presented during a ceremony set up by Furat Cham Hotel its achievments within the program (risk reduction based on the community), which opened about six months ago with funding from Syria Shell Petroleum Development, in the presence of Secretary of al- Baath party branch Deir Ez-Zor, Dr. Taha Khalifa and Eng. Sheba Assayed Deputy Chief Executive Officer, and Mr. (Ian Wultz), Syria Shell representative.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Branch Deir al-Zour Red Crescent Dr. Ghassan Shubat briefed branch activities and work, stressing that, since its founding in 1976, made a lot of social and humanitarian services at various levels and various stakeholders, it is to provide first aid and training, to prepare and respond to disasters and to mobilize supplies , to participate campaigns of humanitarian relief to Iraqis and the Palestinians and Lebanese, as well as the obligation to make the rules of international humanitarian law in schools and universities, and contribute to the distribution of food aid, and make periodic visits to provide psychosocial support and meet the needs of the role of the orphans and the Centre for note events and other activities that seek in one of its aspects to support and train young volunteers, basing this on the seven principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent.
For his part, the representative of Syria Shell, MrWultz said that The contributions of Syria Shell is proof of its role as an essential partner in development with various governments and international humanitarian organizations, as well as ongoing support to Deir al-Zour, which was reflected in several places and services such as building a hospital of modern medicine in the fields and support initiatives environmental programs and road safety and the environment for more than 35 thousand pupils in primary schools, Deir al-Zour.
He added that Syria Shell hopes to continue cooperation with the Red Crescent to cope with the components of risk management, in addition to seeking to raise awareness in the youth population and school students.
He thanked the f management and volunteers in the Deir al-Zour branch of the Red Crescent for the great efforts they are making to achieve organizational goals.
The volunteer Firas Firas gave a presentation on the project to build community capacity to reduce risk, explaining that the primary goal of the campaign is to spread the program and work on the analysis of existing risk in vulnerable communities in areas most at risk, and strengthen the operational capacity of the Syrian Arab Red Crescent and the creation of activities to reduce these risks.
Firas added that, for the province of Deir al-Zour , the target areas in the city are the areas that are permanently at risk of traffic accidents and the lack of health awareness in addition to awareness campaigns and training in first, while in rural areas, included the villages of Buqrus –al-chola – al-mrieiا – Mahimidah.
Then he displayed has implemented a campaign program such as installing metal fences on the doors of a group of schools, and barriers of tires on both sides of the road in the village of disk and supporting poor students in schools and the distribution of aid, school bags, and seminars to educate health in girls schools.
