Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sufian Allaw said on Thursday that gas production in Syria has reached 28 million cubic meters per day.

About 20 million cubic meters go to the Ministry of Electricity to be used in electricity generation plants, which helps reduce the import of fuel, thus saving considerable amounts of foreign currency.

Going on a field visit to oil companies in al-Hasaka region, Allaw said oil production average during the first quarter of 2010 amounted to approximately 383 thousand barrels per day. This average is likely to increase with new companies are expected to start oil production including Abu Kamal Oil Company, founded by the Syrian General Petroleum Corporation (SGPC) and TAT Naft Co., and al-Rashid Company, established by the IPR Co. and the SGPC.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources stressed during a tour to Tishreen Power Plant, which is owned by Awdah Oil Company, partner with Syrian General Petroleum Corporation and the Chinese company of Sinopec, the importance of improving conditions and situations of work and protecting the environment from pollution and setting plans for the company.

He added that an agreement was made to collect oil and transfer it through pipes instead of tankers.

Awdah Oil Company produces about 22 thousand oil barrels per day, and it is planning to increase its production to 50 thousand oil barrels per day in 2017.

Awdah company is a joint venture between the GPC and Chinese SINOPEC.
Chinese SINOPEC announced last August the establishing of Syria SIPEC Ltd to replace Candian Dublen as a partener of GPC in Awdah and Tishreen Oil Companies.

Allaw as well as visited Kubaiba Plant of Kawkab Oil Company ( Joint venture between GPC and Chinese CNPC with 14.000 barrel a day and plans to increase its production to 16.000 barrel a day in coming years by surveying new areas.

He had a look on work reality in al-Jbessa Gas Plant that treats about 3 million cubic meter of gas a day 1.5 million cubic meters is using in Fertilizing Industry and the other is added to the General Gas net to be used in generating Electric and industrial Power .

Allaw met al-Jbessa and Operating Companies Staff s and discussed plans of Fields Directorate to save Environment from the pollution resulted by digging and oil transfer operations.

He stressed on the need of staff training continuously to develop their potentials indicated that his Ministry recently created Oil and Gas technical institution in al-Taim Field in Deir al-Zour in addition to developed Training Center for gas and Refining workers in al-Freqles area in Homs .

Al-Jbessa Fields Directorate of SPC intends to produce 9.5 million barrel a day in the current year with its fields in al-Hassaka ,Deir al-Zour , Arraqa, Homs , Damascus Country with 399 productive wells and 5879 employee.
