Based on the discussions during President Bashar Assad ‘s visit to Azerbaijan last July.. Ministry of Oil and Mineral Resources Signed with Azeri Industry and Nuclear Energy Ministry on the Minutes of the Meeting for starting negotiations for signing a long term agreement for exporting 1.5 billion cubic meter of gas a year.

Through this Minutes of the meeting which was signed by Eng. Sufian Allaw Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources and Azerbaijan Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev Azerbaijan will ship gas to Georgian Turkish borders and then the Syrian side will ship it through Turkish starting of mid of next year.

The two parts agreed on enhancing cooperation in Azerbaijani gas area throughSyrian Gas Net to Arab Countries consumers .

They as well as agreed to open joint ventures in gas and oil industry area .

Allaw said that this agreement will help in providing lasting source of gas for Syria.

Minister Aliyev expressed willingness to provide Syria with the amount of gas agreed upon and to exchange expertise in the fields of oil and energy.
