Syria and Azerbaijan agreed to sign a memo of understanding for buying 1 to 1, 5 billion cubic meters of Azerbaijani gas annually through Turkey.
During a meeting on Tuesday, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Sufian Allaw and Azerbaijan Minister of Industry and Energy Natiq Aliyev discussed potential cooperation to establish joint companies between the Syrian Petroleum Company (SPC) and the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan Republic (SOCAR).
Allaw said “Azeri gas will be used domestically and the extra amount will be exported to Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, Greece and Italy through the Arab gas pipeline.”
“It will also contribute to boosting relations through participation of Azeri investors in joint projects with Syria,” he added.
Minister Aliyev expressed willingness to provide Syria with the amount of gas agreed upon and to exchange expertise in the fields of oil and energy.
