Azerbaijani Energy Minister in Damascus to discuss exporting of 1 billion cubic meters of gas annually to Syria

Azerbaijani Energy and Industry Minister Nateq Aliyev arrived in Damascus for an official visit for talks with Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Sufian Allaw and signed an agreement in principle for the purchase of Syria 1 billion cubic meters of gas from Azerbaijan through the Turkish gas network.
President Bashar Assad in last July agreed with his Azerbaijani counterpart, Ilham Aliyev during his visit to Azerbaijan to sell Syria 1 billion cubic meters of gas via Turkish territory.
President Assad, during that visit, said the Azerbaijani gas could provide them to Syria and Jordan and Egypt, pointing out that the purchase of natural gas is very important for Syria,
energy minister of Azerbaijan also to examine other possible prospects for cooperation between the two countries as well as a visit to the gas treatment plants in Alfrqls The Faculty of Petroleum Engineering at the University of the Baath which are discussed areas of cooperation in the exchange of scientific expertise and training of cadres.
It is noteworthy that relations between Syria and Azerbaijan have witnessed significant growth during the past period was the signing of the Convention on 19 President al-Assad during a visit to Baku, avoid duplication and mutual administrative cooperation for the correct application of customs legislation, and trade and economic cooperation, encouragement and reciprocal protection of investments.
