Shell organized Seminar on Road Safety in Deir al-Zour
Syria Shell for oil development organized Road Safety seminar In Arab Culture Center in Deir al-Zour and the importance of adhere it to cut down accidents Presented by Basil Shaaban – Formula 3 Euro Series driver & UN World Youth Ambassador for Road Safety.
Shaaban gave a presentation about Road Safety and the importance of stick to it to have safe driving free of accidents and damages.. and about the most famous accidents in Arab states reviewing UN and WHO statistics about accidents and numbers of deaths and causalities in the whole world which reach to 1.200.000 person a year with average of 3200 person a day.
Shaaban stressed that excessive speed, not using seat belts, and ensuring of wheels safety will double the accident rate indicating to the new road Law and its use in reducing the accident average by 18 % and deaths rates by 12 % during first 8 Months of its applying.
Abdulmajeed al-Huri Health ,Safety and Environment Director in Syria Shell said that The company is carrying out many activities and campaigns to spread awareness among its staff towards traffic accidents indicating that it as well as in cooperation with traffic Directorate to promote to the new road law and presenting seminars and workshops in Road World Day.

Nahed Ashaikh Attiaya Syria Shell Program Officer for traffic environmental health children’s awareness in Deir al-Zour said that since 7 years the program was started in cooperation with Syrian Education Ministry for students in 5th class especially those who are in the school of areas that linked to oil fields like al-Jafra. Busaira, al-Mayadeen and al-Eshara and aiming to reduce children road accidents through spreading awareness towards crossing roads by posters on school bags distributed to 15.000 student a year.

She added that the program was expanded in 2008-2009 to include some schools in Damascus and Palmyra . it as well as participated in Avant-garde Camps and Arab and World Road Day and Environment world Day .
The Middle East has the world’s highest per-capita road fatality rate between 15-29 years of age, and it is this age group that a professional Arab formula driver like Basil can influence the most.
