President Bashar al-Assad issued a legislative decree No. 13 acted to amend the Decree containing the creation of the General Company for Phosphate and Mines to become a public company for the production of phosphate and investment, marketing. The decree as well as added the company to the functions of General Establishment of Geology.

The decree recommended the transfer of ownership of movable and immovable assets belonging to the Directorate of salt mines and al-Qariatain Sander in the General Company for Phosphate and Mines to the General Establishment of Geology and considers all the permanent employees redeployed to the institution with same salaries and working as contractors, temporary and seasonal workers in the company and the Directorate of salt mines and al-Qariatain Sander workers the same conditions and remuneration in institution and the institution resolved replaced General Company for marbles and asphalt all rights and consequent obligations.

Commenting on the decree, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sufian al-Allaw said that the decree end the phase of lack of regulation to put an end to the fragmentation of responsibilities and the loss of several points, including contributing to the limited responsibility of each party and its mandate and role, which facilitates the investment process of mineral resources by the public and private sectors to ensure the right State.
