Allaw: 60,000 Km2 of New Exploration Areas to be Announced Soon… development of the Banias refinery awaits exhibitors company studies
Eng. Sufyan Allaw Minister of oil and Mineral Resources said on Wednesday that his Ministry plans to produce around 2 billion barrels of oil per day from 2009 to 2025 and provide around 160 billion cubic meters of clean gas to consumers in the electricity, transport, industry and petroleum sectors.
During a press conference on the Ministry’s plans and programs for 2010, Allaw said the Ministry announced earlier this year the invitation of specialized international companies to provide tenders for developing seven standing fields in order to increase their productivity.
He also said that an announcement will be made in March on accepting tenders from international companies for exploration and excavation of around 8 new sites with a total area of approximately 60,000 square meters.
The Ministry aims to re-announce exploration of four sites in Syrian regional waters with a total area of 5,000 square kilometers, the Minister added.
On gas production in Syria, Allaw noted that Syria’s gas production is constantly increasing, saying that the Ebla Gas Plant should be put into service in 2010, producing around 2.5 million cubic meters of clean gas per day, in addition to producing gas condensates and gas for domestic use.
He also said that the Hayyan Gas Plant south of Palmyra will hopefully be put into service by the end of 2010. It is expected to produce 3.5 million cubic meters of clean gas per day, pointing out that Syria currently imports around 2.5 million cubic meters of gas per day from Egypt through the Arab Gas Pipeline, adding that the increased production will help expand the uses of gas in the coming stage.

Allaw clarified that ministry provided the demanded gas for operating Electric generating stations in addition to those that will be constructed till 2015 as well as preparing studies for gas use in other areas saying that 1000 public buses will be provided by gas after ending procedures and this is the priority of the ministry.
He added that ministry planed to import gas from neighbor countries through understanding memos with Turkey to finishing gas network that link the two countries and importing gas from Turkey or other neighbor countries especially Azerbaijan and Iran that will provide credible source of gas to Syria to be used in electric, transportation and Industry sectors.
On the Refining industry in Syria Allaw said that Refineries in large projects with high economic costs and low revenues indicating that alfrqles joint refinery with Iran and Venezuela and Malaysian private sector is an important project but the initial economic indications were not encouraging ..
He added that companies are now preparing an evaluation for indications basing on news suggestions hoping that the economic revenues will increase ..
On the refining industry in Syria, Alao pointed out that the refineries in charge of major projects economically and with low economic rent is the refinery Alfrqls common with Iran and Venezuela, the Malaysian private sector projects, but the important economic indicators were not encouraging primary and companies re-evaluate the study hypotheses indicators according to a new hope to improve the rentier, and encourages to move forward in this project.
He added there is another project to establish a refinery with the Chinese side the recently completed economic study and discussions are under way to complete the procedures.
Regarding the development of the Banias refinery minister added that the ministry of oil waiting exhibitors that have committed to the implementation of this project, to make studies and actions necessary to make the financial offer and the light of that decision is made in this regard, pointing out that this project will contribute to improving the quality and increase the refinery’s products and derivatives white achieve greater economic rents.
