Advanced Resources Development (ELARD) in cooperation with Italian Technip company evaluate the Environmental affect of al-Manawi Refinery project in Karbala in Iraq.

 

 

 


Iraq has the third major oil reserve in the world with current production of 2 million barrel a day and the existed refineries don’t meet the demands.

 

 

Iraqi Oil Projects company asked one of an international companies to make studies to establishing the refinery in Karbala about (110 km south west of Baghdad) .. Advanced Resources Development (ELARD) contributed in these studies by participating in evaluating the Environmental affect of the project.

 
Karbala refinery will include 18 stages of crude oil treatment with 140.000 barrel a day.

 
Study Stages

1-define the study area
Study area was within 20 km diameter of the refinery and its equipments will be on 12 km2 of the area.
2-detailed description of the main structure components.

-soil, animals and plants vital variety, the agriculture activities and water resources in addition to geological , Hydro geological of the area.
- the quality of the surrounded air and the noisy.
- Archeological and ruin areas and the culture inheritance of the local society.
- the economical and social situation of the local society.
3- identifying the legislative and organizational structure .
4- describing the project stages technically .
5- Evaluating the environmental affects of each stage and identifying its source , nature and volume.
6- putting environmental management plan to avoid and reduce the environmental affects.
7- report contains alternative possibilities within the alternative zero ,ei. Canceling the project to site and technology alternatives.
