With Participation of more than 50 Arab and foreign researchers;Opening of Tectonic studies and evaluation of seismic activity in Syria and neighboring countries workshop

Eng Sufian Allaw Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources opened the Workshop “Tectonic studies and evaluation of seismic activity in Syria and neighboring countries”set up by the Arab School for Science and Technology, in collaboration with the National Center for earthquakes with more than fifty scholars from sixteen Arab and foreign countries.

Allaw who represented the Prime Minister Muhammad Naji al-Otari indicated to the importance of utilizing research findings presented and the exchange of expertise and experience to develop ways to clarify the degree of seismic line in Syria and neighboring countries using the best methods and modern scientific technologies to achieve what can reduce the seismic risk in the service of a comprehensive regional planning on the foundations and rules of modern scientific design and construction of infrastructure, seismic resistance of the act.

For his part, Mohammed Daoud Director-General of the National Center for Earthquake sad that the establishment and implementation of a range of scientific projects is vital in the installation and operation of modern digital seismic monitoring and follow-up to establish a special monitoring network to study and monitor the continuous movement of the crust using satellite technology to geographical positioning system, as well as to incorporation of the draft Tectonic studies modernization and development of active tectonic maps of Syria and the discrimination of active faults and beginning to set seismic map of the Syrian territories to determine the relationship between geological structure and quality of infrastructure and facilities to achieve in order to reduce the impact of seismic.
