People’s Assembly approved on Monday during a session chaired by Speaker of the Assembly Dr. Mahmoud al-Abrash a bill for approving the cooperation frame agreement between General Petroluem Corporation and Total E&P Syrie.

The frame agreement which was signed on /27/4/2009 aims to enhance mutual cooperation and establishing strategic partnerships allow to develop joint projects between Syrian companies and Total as well as creating new vacancies in exploration and production and gas projects in and outside Syria.

Eng. Sufian Allaw Minister of oil and Mineral Resources said that the agreement is not an agreement for exploration but it is a frame agreement that determines the bases of cooperation in 6 areas inside Syria like the cooperation in looking for joint chances in exploration works and improving the storing features of gas fields as well as enhancing oil enhanced by heavy oil production in addition to training Syrian national staffs .While the cooperation outside Syria will be on cooperation in gas and Hydrocarbon materials shipping to neighbor countries.

Allaw added that Total is a giant company with good reputation and cooperation with it will benefit us.

Allaw clarified that SPCis the main company in investing oil in Syria and have 80% of reserves, while areas that have weak revenues go to cooperation with foreign companies . and when oil be produced we share production according to sharing conditions that agreed on in the contract.

 
Total signed with oil and mineral resources ministry on last September three agreements about :
-strategic cooperation framework agreement between the GPC and Total
– Protocol to extend production-sharing agreement between the GPC and Total.
– Agreement to develop and Invest Tabbia gas field between the GPC and Total.

Total company recently received ISO 14001 in 2004 in line with international standards for environmental management systems is the first company Oil in Syria receive this certificate.

excellence through the Deir Al-Zour oil company which is a joint venture (50% Total, 50% Syrian Oil Company), where production was produced by Total group in Syria 29 thousand barrels of oil per day in 2007.
