Arab Gas Pipeline to provide Lebanon and extend later to Turkey Allaw … “We hope to extend the pipeline from Aleppo to Turkey before the end of 2010.”
Lebanese Minister of Energy announced on Saturday that Lebanon will receive thirty million cubic feet of natural gas through the Arab gas pipeline from the end of this summer.
The minister Alan Taprian told reporters at the Cairo Conference of Ministers of Energy of the pipeline that “after many promises agreed to sign the final documents and that the D-day of gas will begin in next August.”
For his part, Syrian Oil Minister Sufian Allaw said that pipeline will be build to Turkey was also at the end of next year.
Allaw said, “We hope to extend the pipeline from Aleppo to Turkey and the implementation of the project before the end of 2010.”
Egypt had said last year that it would not sign any new contracts to export gas to the year 2010 to meet growing domestic demand. However, Minister of Petroleum Sameh Fahmi said that the arrangements with Lebanon, a part of the previous agreement.
Arab gas pipeline project had been agreed upon in 2000 to export Egyptian gas to Jordan, Lebanon and Syria. However, political differences have delayed for years to build the pipeline, which runs the length of 1200 km.

Earlier in May, Iraqi Oil Minister Hussain al-Shahristani said that his government is in talks on the possibility of exporting the surplus of natural gas via pipeline to the Middle East and Europe.
