Oil Reservoirs Management

By Dr. Eng: Ahmed Moalla
Chairman of the Board of al-Kawkab oil Company

The management is by definition is the rational use of available means.
Thus, oil reservoirs management is a rational and optimal use of the available means to the investment based on these reservoirs in order to maximize the desired benefits of the oil reservoir

through the use of available sources or means, (human beings by taking advantage of their knowledge, expertise, technologies ,digest, and good finance) in order to increase the productivity indicators of the oil reservoir and to increase revenues , to the greatest possible extent and to reduce costs as much as possible.
There are two basic options for technicians and engineers responsible for investment of oil reservoirs:
The first is to let things happen and the second is to make things happen.

And, of course, is the second option is to make any issues planned, which aims to increase the yield of oil to the greatest extent is happening and here comes the role of hard work, any role the optimal management of oil reservoirs based on the following principles and foundations, which are a guide and directions to the investment policies and strategies of oil reservoirs:
1. Energy use of the reservoir as the best.
2. The use of strategies and clear policies for the development of oil reserves since the beginning.
3. Collection of data necessary to assist in the understanding of the reservoir of oil in terms of its geological and Alkhoznip mechanism and knowledge of his work and that access to this data regularly and systematically in a timely manner.
4. The use of appropriate technologies and knowledge that lead to increase production and improve yields and raise the productive classes.
5. Act in accordance with the wording of the group and cooperation among all branches of industry, mining and oil exploitation (geology, geophysics, reservoir engineering, drilling, production ….) To the intersection of experience and knowledge of representatives of these branches to serve the main objective, which is optimal management of the oil reservoir and access to the largest oil yield possible.
Therefore, the main objective for the management of oil reservoirs is the best investment of the stock of oil and increasing returns, we must follow the following steps:
1. Definition and identification of reservoirs (tanks) in a specific field in terms of physical and geological characteristics, chemical and physical movement of fluids in porous center and payment mechanisms by which oil is produced.
2. Trace the history of the oil reservoir performance and past performance to predict the future.
3. Determine the optimum network of wells, to the inclusion of the entire area of the field production and ensure that no overlap of the country and the withdrawal of the wells so as to avoid drilling unnecessary.
4. Identify and improve the designs of wells and surface facilities to make them invest in the best way.
5. A program of monitoring and control of all wells Odaaml and indicators of productivity, in particular, and the reservoir in general, and to intervene when necessary in a timely manner.
6. Conduct studies Stores integrated and updated periodically, taking into account new data available through the drilling of new wells and monitor the behavior and performance of the old wells, draw conclusions and lessons learned through the behavior and performance.
7. Ways to improve the use of Improved Oil Recovery and Enhanced Oil Recovery after stores integrated studies on the basis of which can be chosen method or methods appropriate to the circumstances of the various reservoir (geology, store mechanism of action … ..)
Finally.
The end of an era of easy oil production, which has become the world now speak of oil and the arrival of the global production peak and the start of little or declining rates of production from some of the giant fields around the world and talk about the difficulty of the discovery of new giant fields will lead to an increase in reserves, as the large and compensate for the shortfall in production and the increasing demand for energy in many countries of the world has increased the importance of managing oil reservoirs and create unprecedented challenges as the need to strengthen the revenues of oil and increase the production of such large quantities of the remaining reserve in the depositions of all the geological characteristics of the different calls for better management of the reservoirs of oil, as we said, the Department of the former aims to maximize benefits and increase the yield of oil to the greatest extent possible.
