A Memo of Understanding between Syria and India to Develop Phosphate Industry in Syria

A memo of understating between Public Phosphate company and Indian Advisory Engineering Consortium was signed Thursday at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources.

 

The memo is to prepare the feasibility of developing phosphate industry in Syria.

Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Sufian Allaw said the memo aims at conducting a total survey of the reality of phosphate in Syria and identifying the best means to deal with this treasure by industrializing fertilizers of various kinds and exporting through Syrian ports.

 

 

Allaw added that the memo stresses bolstering relations between the two peoples of Syria and India and pave the way for more economic cooperation between the two countries.

For his part, Indian Ministry of Fertilizers and Chemicals envoy, Sudhair Buhrkan stressed that the survey which will take one year will enable Syria to best invest phosphate reserves, pointing out that his advisory team will exert efforts to achieve the objectives agreed upon for the good of the two peoples.

 

 

 

Syria’s phosphate production is 4 million tons a year. The General Phosphate company is working on increasing production to become 10 million tons a year.

Petroleum and Mineral Resources Assistant Minister, Hassan Zeinab, Director General of the General Geology Establishment and the Indian Ambassador in Damascus attended the meeting.
