Syrian and Iranian oil Ministries signed a memorandum of understanding to continuity and strengthen cooperation in the areas of oil and gas and refining industry.

The memorandum was signed by the Syrian side Eng.Sufian Allaw Minister of Oil and Mineral Resources and the Iranian side Gholam Hussein Nouzari Oil Minister of the Islamic Republic of Iran to develop cooperation between the two countries in the areas of oil refining and gas exploration and production of oil and gas in Syria and Iran.

The memorandum also reaffirmed its support for the Iranian side of the joint refinery project, where the project has priority over any of the projects involving external Iran and has the full support of the Iranian government has agreed to make efforts to expedite the completion of the project.

In the gas area , the two sides stressed their willingness for serious cooperation in the field of transport and marketing of gas and the Iranian side showed its readiness to supply gas to Syria through the Turkish gas network when they are ready for the transfer of gas expected to be completed, where the end of the year 2010.

The Syrian side also stressed the importance of the achievement of the sale and purchase of gas for the completion of the Transfer Agreement with Turkey

The two sides expressed their readiness during the tripartite meeting was held to Syria to discuss the Iranian-Iraqi plan to construct a pipeline to export Iranian gas to Europe via Iraq and Syria, through the Mediterranean to Greece and Italy, including the interests of the three countries where it is possible to export the Iraqi and Syrian gas through this line as well.

In the area of exploration and production of oil and gas, the two sides expressed their interest in establishing a joint cooperation in this area and noted the Syrian side to the possibility of a joint Syrian-Iranian companies active in the field of exploration, given the great experience enjoyed by countries in this area.
