President al-Assad Issues Law No. 3 for Supporting Economic and Social Development in Syria, Conservation of Fossil Fuel, and Environment Protection

President Bashar al-Assad issued on Sunday Law No. 3 for 2009 for preservation of energy.

The law aims at supporting economic and social development in Syria, prolonging the time for exhausting the available fossil fuel reserves for as long as possible, reducing the negative effects resulting from the use of traditional power transporters, and contributing to meeting the demands of sustainable development.

 
The law works to spread and apply concepts of preserving energy, including the guidance of energy conception, increasing the efficiency of using energy in all fields with long-term effects on the rates of energy production and consumption. It also works to spread the use of renewable energies and its various applications.

 
The full text of the law will be published in the official gazette. It will be enforced six months after publication.

 
The law is also to be applied to all governmental and private educational institutions, scientific research centers, public organizations, civil associations and religious commissions.
