Egyptian oil Minister: Gas Export Agreement with Syria has nothing to do with political differences
Egyptian oil Minister Sameh Fahmi said “export gas agreements with Arab countries including Syria had nothing to do with the current political differences.”
Fahmi said in remarks published Monday that “the government is keen on the oil resources , and that there is a decision not to export gas from Egypt’s share until 2010 to meet the growing demand on the domestic gas market,” he said, noting that “the resolution does not preclude the right of the foreign partner’s share in the export” .
Syria and Egypt signed a gas deal between the two countries provides for Syria to provide limited quantities of Egyptian natural gas ranging from 2.5 million cubic meters per day for up to 6 million cubic meters per day in 2013.
Flow gas to Syria has begun to through the Arab Gas Pipeline, since 10/7/2008 in the implementation of the agreement hammered out between the two countries.
The Arab Gas Pipeline is one of the Arab projects of vital economic importance of direct participation in an area stretching from El Arish in Egypt via Aqaba in Jordan and Syria, leading to and from Europe to Turkey and the length of 1200 km and a diameter of 36 inches with a branch to Lebanon.
