Russia stopped gas exports to Ukraine

Russia suspended gas supplies to Ukraine after the two sides failed to agree on repayment terms.

 

 

 


The Russian company Gazprom, it stopped gas supplies to Ukraine at the seventh GMT Thursday after the contract expired at midnight.

 
The Ukrainian company Naftogaz gas that you receive from Russia decreased, but promised to ensure the continuation of supplies to Europe through its territory.

 
A spokesman for Gazprom said that the flow of 300 million cubic meters of gas daily to Europe through Ukraine continued.

 
It is noteworthy that Russia cut off gas supplies to Ukraine in January 2006. According to Ukraine and the European Union, said that stockpiles of gas are sufficient for the consumption of winter.

 
Europe imports more than 40% of the consumption of gas from Russia and is 80% of Russian gas through Ukraine.

 
The Gazprom cut off supplies to Ukraine after it said first that Kiev had failed to pay the price for gas imports in the past two months and up to 1.6 billion dollars in addition to fees of up to 450 million dollars.
Kiev says it paid 1.6 billion dollars of the amount requested.
