Gulf Sands Petroleum Company announced the discovery of oil wells, in Yusufiya -1 well which is in sector 26 in Syria, in Alrmelan area the southwestern Swediya in the Hassake, which is operated by Gulf Sands.
On the other hand, the company said that total production of oil from East Kherbet field had exceeded million barrels.
The sources confirmed that the Yusufiya well is well set to oil exploration, indicated that the oil is of 23 api standard .. studies are currently underway with the Syrian Petroleum Company to estimate the size of the reservoir.
Discovery of oil wells in Yusufiya 1:
Yusufiya -1 Well is about 3 kilometers around the early production facility east of the village in the field of 26 sector in Syria. Has emerged in this oil well in the rock chalk layer was pumped to the surface self-propelled at a daily rate of approximately 900 barrels.
The well depth of 2139 meters, while the rock chalk layer appeared at a depth of less than expected before the start of deep drilling at the initial assessment of the report of drilling has revealed drilling an oil column thickness of 64 meters, containing approximately 63 meters of oil, whereas the rate of rock 18.6%.
East Kherbet field, Sector 26, Syria. On the other hand, achieved production of oil in a East Kherbet field important achievement, with total production exceeded one million barrels since the start of operations in July last, in the early production facility set up by the Gulf Sands cooperation with the Syrian petroleum company.
East Kherbet field continues production rate of nearly 11,500 barrels per day from five wells (3 vertical wells and 2 vertical ones ), with a simple effects of water. Indicate pressure to control the behavior of the oil-producing wells to reduce the proportion of low pressure in areas where oil.
As a result of this performance exceeded expectations in the East Kherbet field, the Gulf Sands expects to re-evaluate the oil reserves in this field, carried out by the RPS Group by the end of 2008, with the emergence of the expectations of results during the first quarter of 2009.
In this regard, Rick Malcolm, CEO of Gulf Sands said: «The discovery of oil wells in Yusufiya -1 is an important result for the Gulf Sands Company, also represents an important impetus for us to explore oil in the future». This is the second oil discovery in the company achieved 26 sector in two years, is a clear indication of the potential of this region. I continue to find in East Kherbet field production rates high during the early production facility, and we are very proud accomplishment achieved in this field, which is to produce a total of more than one million barrels of oil since production began in July. On the other hand, the discovery of oil near Yusufiya East Kherbet fields, in addition to the high quality of the collected incentive oil encouraging . And Gulf Sands owns 50% of the interests of the 26 sector’s operation, , north-east of Syria. The East Kherbet field was discovered following the completion of drilling wells KHE-1 in July 2007 and began commercial production within 13 months of discovery.
The result of this oil field is currently at 11,500 bpd of production during the plant early. 8.250 field covers an area of approximately 2 miles, and contains wells currently produce more than the amount of hundred thousand barrels of oil a day by the Syrian Oil Company mainly operated.
The Gulf Sands Company extended the period of initial exploration in the 26 sector for another three years, began on 23 August 2007.
