Shell to quit Syria after EU extends sanctions

Financial Times Newspaper said that Royal Dutch Shell will “cease” activities in Syria after the European Union blacklisted three state-owned oil companies.

 

 

 

 

A Shell spokesman said to Netherlands radio: “Our main priority is the safety of our employees … We hope the situation improves quickly for all Syrians.”

the Company refused at first EU calls to stop its activities in Syria and said that it will do that if the EU imposed sanctions on Syrian Oil Productions.

Oil Ministry in 2008 signed an agreement with to extend Shell contracts in al-Furat oil Company fields to / 10 / more years.Shell owns 31.25 % of AFPC equally with the government and the Chinese and Indian operaters. shell has three excellences for oil production.

Shell was established in Netherlands and has a branch in Damascus owned at the whole by the company .Shell is considered one of the lead investment companies in Syria .In 2010 it announced that its oil Exploration and production in Syria reached 8 billion $.
