Iranian Shura Council Speaker Ali Larijani described the agreement on establishing a gas pipeline from Aslawiya port in Iran to Europe across Syria and Iraq as strategic and an important development in energy equations in the region

.

Larijani was speaking during a meeting on Tuesday with Meeting the Iraqi Oil Minister, Abdulkarem Liaybi in which he stressed the readiness of the Iranian companies to contribute to reconstructing Iraq.

During a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said that transporting gas through Iraq to Syria and then the Mediterranean and Europe will benefit the region’s countries and their prosperity.

Syria, Iran and Iraq signed a memo of understanding on building a gas pipeline to export and transport the Iranian gas across Syria and Iraq to the Mediterranean and Europe.
