Allaw met with Luaibi and signed MuO on establishing a network of oil and gas pipelines
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sufian Allaw discussed with his Iraqi counterpart Abdul-Karim Luaibi cooperation in the field of oil and gas and means of transferring Iraqi oil production to the Mediterranean across Syria.
The two sides signed a memo of understanding on establishing a network of oil and gas pipelines to transfer Iraqi crude oil and gas across Syria and investment possible surplus lines of current oil that the Iraqi side, the reform of the oil pipeline from the side and start pumping Iraqi oil by the end of this year and develop Akkas gas and the Agreement on the exchange petroleum products between the two sides and cooperation in the field of training and qualification of human resources.
a preliminary agreement between Iraq and Syria were last year to allow the export of about three million barrels of Iraqi oil a day through pipelines arrive to the Mediterranean through Syria so that they are the first line capacity up to 1.5 million barrels, while the capacity of the second line of 1.25 million.
The two sides then said that the line will be the largest heavy crude, while the line will be smaller and lighter crudes and added that project include a line to transport gas that could be used to run the pumping stations.
