Syria, Croatia Discuss Cooperation in Oil and Gas Exploration, Power Generation

Prime Minister Mohammad Naji Otri on Wednesday discussed with Croatian Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Ivan Suker prospects of Syrian-Croatian cooperation and means of enhancing them.
Talks dealt with cooperation in the fields of oil and gas exploration and production and power generation.Both sides also discussed the possibility of exchanging expertise and benefiting from the Croatian experience in developing the sectors of transport, sea ports, tourism, banks, agriculture and infrastructure.

During President Bashar al-Assad’s visit to Croatia in October 2009, the two countries signed a memo of understanding on enhancing cooperation and coordination between the Syrian and Croatian Ministries of Economy with the aim of exchanging expertise in the domains of trade and competitiveness, in addition to encouraging investments and exhibitions and promoting exports.
The two countries are also connected with an agreement on avoiding double taxation, and an agreement on exchanging air services.

Meeting was attended by Abdullah Dardari, Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs and Dr. Zeinab Hassan, Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources and the Ambassador of Croatia and the honorary consul in Syria and the accompanying delegation.
The two countries signed during the visit of President Bashar al-Assad to Croatia in October 2009 a memorandum of understanding for cooperation and coordination between the ministries of economy in both countries to exchange experiences in the areas of trade, competitiveness and investment promotion, exhibitions and export promotion.
Countries are also tied to the Convention for the Avoidance of Double Taxation and the Convention for the exchange of air services in addition to the presence of companies Croatian engaged in the exploration for oil and gas in Syria, such as the company «Ina» working with the Foundation of the oil in the central region in the field of Hayan, which signed its first contract in 1998 for exploration for oil in the Palmyra area.
