with production stands at 17554 BOPD from Oudeh and Tishrine fields…China’s Sinopec is considering expanding its participation in the prospecting for oil in Syria With

“Our production stands at 17554 BOPD from Oudeh and Tishrine fields, including the oil base of about 5822 BOPD, which is expected to increase in the coming years,” Dr. Mou Hansheng, GM of Oudeh Petroleum Company (OPC) confirmed. OPC is a joint operating company between General Petroleum Corporation (GPC) and the Chinese Sinopec company.

Dr. Mou during an interview with Syria Oil website said that the relationship with the Ministry of Petroleum and GPC is good, and that GPC has provided OPC with many assistance and supports that contributed to the continuation of Sinopec operation in Syria.

Dr. Mou pointed out that Sinopec is considering and having an eye towards the Blocks being announced by the Ministry of Petroleum for prospecting and exploration. The company is also eying participation in the offshore Blocks in the Syrian territorial waters in the Mediterranean Sea, saying that Sinopec has the financial resources and expertise necessary to carry out large projects; especially as the company has subsidiaries and branches in 37 countries around the world.

Talking about the contract being entered into with the Ministry of Petroleum and about the sharing percentage, Dr. Mou said that the contract was originally signed between the Ministry of Petroleum and Dublin Company. Although some terms and conditions are not quite satisfied, we have to accept them. This is the international common practice.

When asked about the accuracy of the information provided by Dublin to Sinopec about the oil reserves in the fields belonging to the company, before acquisition, Dr. Mou said, “We have been spending one and half years in studying all of the information provided to us and there will be a process of practice, cognition, and re-practice. It will take a certain period of time to get the complete understanding”, he noted.
As for the measures taken by Sinopec in order to meet the remarks made by the Minister of Petroleum about the bad smell in some areas where the company is operating, , Dr. Mou said that Sinopec has always been providing the utmost care and paying full attention to environment protection much as it contributes to the protection and safety of the local community in the area of operations; this is in terms of constantly examining, identify and taking effective measures towards the potential environmental impacts. And Sinopec has made a significant progress in this regards.

Special systems for burning gas have been installed on well pads in order to reduce gas emissions to the minimum possible level, this is in addition to working fervently on removal of oil wastes and maintaining as well as improving the water quality in Taban Spring.

It is worth mentioning that OPC is a JV between GPC and the Chinese Sinopec Company for the development of Oudeh & Tishrine fields in Al Hassakeh governorate. Last August, Sinopec announced the establishment and the launch of SIPC Syria, Ltd. to replace the Canadian Dublin company, as a partner with GPC in OPC and in TPC.
